Alternative route

What is the best route ? There are some alternative routes on the chemin de Saint Guilhem, and on each of them you will find some beautiful surpises. The main route enables you to walk for a longer time through the vast spaces of the Grands Causses ; the alternative one will lead you along the gorges. But it is a question of how much : whatever you decide, you will enjoy both steppic zones and the gorges at the bottom of which you can wade for a cool break !

In the southernmost part, if you go through La Vacquerie and Mont Saint-Baudille, the arrival at Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert via the Fenestrettes path offers a great view ; the other route, via the combe of Les Natges, is also wonderful for its landscapes and you will discover a nice hermitage.

So, how do you choose ? You can decide according to practical criteria, depending on whether you find lodgings easier on this or that way (indeed, you will have the pleausure of walking through wide open spaces, but lodgings are somestimes few and you have better to book in advance). But the best advice is… to try both ways. No doubt : you should come back !
